Commentary to the article on Adwa Municipal

News

Dear TADAUK Editor,

I am writing to express my deep concern and frustration regarding the rampant corruption and unethical practices within the Adwa Municipality. As a concerned citizen and taxpayer, I feel compelled to bring to your attention the egregious abuses of power and
the detrimental impact these actions have on our community.

First and foremost, the exponential growth of corruption within the municipality, particularly following the 1985 land sale conversion, is alarming. The transition from a small operation with minimal staff to a bloated bureaucracy with hundreds of employees
raises serious questions about transparency, accountability, and fair governance. It is evident that the influx of wealth from land sales has fueled a culture of greed and exploitation, rather than being used for the betterment of our community.

Furthermore, the mismanagement of public resources and assets, such as the Endalilo building in Adi Abun/Buleko, is deeply troubling. Instead of utilizing these facilities for the benefit of the public, they have been neglected and left to deteriorate. The
conversion of valuable land into private assets through fraudulent means, as described in the case of the 76-year-old woman with dementia, is a clear example of how vulnerable members of our society are being exploited for personal gain.

The encroachment on public land and the unlawful seizure of property from impoverished families, as highlighted by the construction of a hotel on land belonging to a poor family in Rama town, is unacceptable. These actions not only perpetuate economic inequality
but also disregard the rights and dignity of those who have been historically marginalized and oppressed.

Moreover, the abuse of power by individuals within the municipality, such as the Adwa Mozagaja, who disregard the rule of law and impose their will without fear of consequence, undermines the very foundations of our democratic society. It is imperative that
those in positions of authority are held accountable for their actions and uphold the principles of justice and integrity.

In light of these egregious violations, I urge you to take immediate and decisive action to address the corruption within the Adwa Municipality. This includes conducting a thorough investigation into all allegations of misconduct, holding those responsible
accountable, implementing comprehensive reforms to improve transparency and accountability, and ensuring that public resources are used for the benefit of all citizens, rather than a select few.

Failure to address these issues not only erodes public trust in our institutions but also perpetuates a cycle of corruption and injustice that undermines the progress and prosperity of our community. As a concerned citizen, I stand ready to support efforts
to combat corruption and uphold the principles of honesty, integrity, and fairness in our municipality.

Sincerely,

Wana Amha
